Blueberry

A kitten taken off our front lawn, and the weekend we spent getting him back.

My wife was feeding our 1 year old when she saw it happen out the window. A small silver convertible pulled over, a woman hopped out, coaxed our cat into her car and drove off. By the time we realized what had happened, he was gone.

I was in the middle of a team meeting when I got the frantic call - “someone took Blueberry!” My heart sank. I ended the meeting, left my office to give her a big hug, and we got to work.

We called every shelter & veterinarian within almost 50 miles. We printed posters and canvassed the neighborhood. We filed a police report & contacted the SPCA. Our community Facebook post had some leads, so we drove 20 minutes away to knock on doors where a similar cat had been seen. It was our only priority the entire weekend.

Sunday afternoon we got the call we were waiting for! We were reunited with our sweet Blueberry at last (there are still $100+ of extra posters waiting for us at Staples… but nonetheless, we had our baby home).

Our posters around the neighborhood did the trick. He’s not a stray - he is loved and missed dearly.

In the end, it was just a misunderstanding.

If you’re ever thinking about taking an animal that might be someone’s pet, please don’t drive away without knocking on the door of the home you’re taking it from.

What we’re doing so this never happens again:

  1. A breakaway collar with an AirTag
  2. Slightly less time roaming outdoors
  3. Thank goodness we already microchipped him
