Week one on my own

A welcome video I couldn't finish, and business cards I couldn't stop making. Written my first week as a full-time entrepreneur.

Week one on my own was a challenge. I failed to produce a welcome video for my new FIXnotes website, and I had my personal business cards printed!

The video was a pain to get right. I was overconfident after breezing through the first video of my training series. I should have known better - that one used slides, no live video necessary. Behind the camera was a whole different story. As if getting my lines & delivery right weren’t enough, I also had to look reasonable (hard!).

I finally nailed it with two camera angles and my new mic on a separate audio track. I was pumped until I played it back, and a distracting wisp of my hair in the primary shot was entirely unacceptable. I also need to dampen the room a bit to lessen the echo.

Finally - new business cards! I have a stupid obsession with business cards. I’ve designed at least half a dozen and printed most of them, typically with 0% ROI, yet I keep making them ;)

They turned out OK. I used upgraded matte stock, but the resolution wasn’t ideal. After they came back from the printer, we cut the top off each card by hand to make a hexagon. It looks very unique (I have an idea to automate the cutting with a new gadget we have coming soon).

So far I’m loving the freedom of being a full-time entrepreneur, but some real challenges are on the horizon. All eyes on the FIXnotes debut conference later this month!
